DRACO Design of Resilient Architectures for Computing

Daniel Gonzalez earned his B.S. in Computer Engineering at UCF, with a focus on embedded systems and hardware design, motivated by building reliable, practical sensing technology. He was a sensor module developer on OpenSense V3, a Draco Labs–sponsored Senior Design project developing an affordable, modular multi-sensor platform for educational use. The system is built around an ESP32-WROOM, supports I2C and analog sensor interfaces, and is battery-powered with USB charging. Daniel designed the schematics and PCB layouts in KiCad for four sensor modules—temperature, humidity, brightness, and fsr-based pressure—and led component selection, BOM creation, soldering/assembly, prototyping, and hardware debugging. Daniel is driven to apply embedded hardware and PCB design skills to build robust systems that translate cleanly from prototype to deployment. Daniel also worked on DRACO LAB’s Dark Fabric research project.
